the worst of this situation is a direct result of trump walking away from a workable agreement with Iran. most of these issues go back much further and are a result of the US and EU going into regions that are not their own and carving things up for fun and profit. we abandoned the promises made to Palestinians when Israel was created and have done nothing to rein in Israel's methodic efforts to effectively wipe out the Palestinians. their pattern of behavior mimics the early days of the United States where we made then broke countless treaties with native Americans, forcing them into essentially open air prisons on the least habitable and least desirable tracts of land in this country. now instead of acknowledging and trying to rectify that issue, we simply try to re-write history or strike out any references to it in our history... we have enabled Israel to do the same. Europe and the US in both the Middle East and Africa have a long horrible record of destroying countries for our own purposes then being surprised when native peoples react badly to our policies!
Well said. America's imperialistic stance would lessen if people traveled more. (Although obviously Iran is not on the tourist list.) We get our jingoistic views from never seeing other cultures. I was telling a friend that 60% of the students in Iran's universities are women. She didn't believe me.
Trump is killing the tourism industry for a reason - authoritarians love a close-minded society.
a close-minded society and a population that is less educated and lives in a vacuum. they also do their best to eliminate any independent sources of information so that there are no metrics out there to judge their performance. trump is on his way to eliminating organizations like the NOAA, NIH, and other organizations that can report independently on things like the climate, health, crime, etc. Authoritarian figures want any and all information to flow through them so they can control the narrative as well as feel omnipotent.. we are allowing that to happen
Great reporting. Thank you. Trump caused all of this when he jettisoned the deal. And now the MAGA base is noticing that inflation did not go down, and the economy is not better. Oops, there's an issue of ignorance in foreign policy. Trump pumps his chest and now we will be closer to a nuclear disaster. I do find myself with a particular kind of admiration? for the coordination and capacity of the US military. (I do like logistical competence in most things.) Talk me down. What, BTW, what does your reporting say about the shady ties of Tulsi Gabbard?
So Tulsi Gabbard is an interesting one. I couldn't sleep one night and did a deep dive listening to all her old interviews when she ran for president. She is VERY anti-war. And dare I say...she sounded pretty reasonable. Yes, I know her ties to Putin are concerning, but she does have military experience. (The bar is low.) Either way, her report in March basically said Iran is a big nothing burger. Of course, Trump chose to ignore her. And she did buckle under his pressure. Trump listens to no one. So it really doesn't matter what bobble dolls are in the situation room.
Did you see the PSA she did, claiming the left is all hiding out in nuclear bunkers? Kind of funny. At this point, we might all wish that were true.
