Such a beautiful and lucid essay. I only hope that those who read and comment going forward actually have basic (not Harvard level) reading comprehension skills to understand the reality of how grants work. It isn’t money for nothing; and grant reporting is such necessary drudgery.

My teen son has spent his whole life as a medical research project of sorts, with allergies and upper digestive tract issues. The amazing thing is watching him mature, taking nothing for granted, and valuing deeply each medical advancement that makes life a bit better. His respect for the medical community and his care givers now has him dreaming of becoming one of those doctors.

Thank you Ms Beccia. Some folks cannot give up their belief in idiots telling them what to think. They don't think. They parrot the ignorance of others. It's easy and it gives them a false security.

Thank you again for writing this.

Thanks for writing this. Speaking for those scientists, we appreciate everyone who understands what we do.

I'm no Uncle Randy but it is fun to hear Poor Howie Harvard moan poor me. & absolutely will send a hallmark for your genetics & prayers that that wasteful mark has stopped with u or their dad overwrote their code.

I think you are the first democratic writer who has not shied from Uncle Randy - your statements hopefully will make a miracle. Don't count on it, not with the lastest version of blue folk.

We The People need a 3rd party. Hopefully from the streets. I would gladly see the individual similar to Melcom X's Mom.

Or just MAYBE they should take all the money they are now spending on lawyer fees to go to battle to do research?? That could be a thing, eh?

The lawyer fees are to keep from having their research funding terminated. This is not an ‘either/or’ situation.

Well cutting back on (fake research) might not be bad, eh?

And this doesn't even include the current FAKE data from Francesca Gino!!

The database includes over 18,000 listings dating as far back as the 1970s — and details how at least half a dozen Harvard affiliates saw their findings rescinded in the past decade or so.

Research Misconduct and Tenure Revocation:

Francesca Gino, a behavioral scientist at Harvard Business School, had her tenure revoked and was fired after an investigation found that she manipulated data in four studies. This case highlights the importance of research integrity and the consequences of research misconduct.

This demonstrates why fraudulent research is statistically rare; it soon becomes evident that it is fraudulent. Also, not all retractions are because of willful fraud, sometimes additional studies fail to replicate earlier findings.

So what if it’s rare? Where are the ethics? Who was HARMED by the fraud? Maybe you and what research YOU depend on?

Okay, fine, if you believe that. Let's go down another road. Or maybe three roads.

1) Harvard had not really followed the letter of the law according to the 2022 Supreme Court ruling

Thought NO ONE was above the law?

In 2022, the U.S. Supreme Court heard arguments in two cases, Students for Fair Admissions, Inc. v. President & Fellows of Harvard College and Students for Fair Admissions, Inc. v. University of North Carolina. These cases challenged the constitutionality of race-conscious admissions policies at Harvard and UNC. The Court ultimately ruled that both Harvard and UNC's admissions programs violated the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment.

2) Harvard’s clearly violating laws or charging too much for individual research grants—60% overhead. So over half of that money

And that leaves no comment on foreign involvement

3) Why should the US Taxpayer have to fund something that foreign governemnts are funding? No quid pro quo I'm sure
